Why I am enjoying work...

Hello family,

Well, as we approach the busy season of banquets, weddings, etc at the Inn, I reflect on how incredible it is for me to be working there.

For one, I get to pump out exciting new cupcakes for members and guest to try at one of the restaurants.
First time making spring lamb cupcakes, loved it

Second, I get to make awesome candy that guests and members get to try in the restaurants...

Pecan Pie Candy (deconstructed pecan pie)

Local honey chocolate hearts (local honey is soooo good, IJS)

Cinnamon Chocolate Squares (my attempt at a leaf garnish didn't quite turn out the way I wanted, sooooooooo, no comment, lol)

New treat:  VODKA LOLLIPOPS!!!!! (Sorry excited about it)

Third, I am enjoying what I love to do and I am learning new skills... that seems like enough for me right now... I love growth, the challenge and having fun while I am learning... life is good...

Well family, I look forward to more to share, will dish out recipes soon, I have definitely amplified some things that I think I can share now :)  Love you lots,

Jae

Skylanders Cake

Well hello family, this posting is a little late, but better late than never....

For a wonderful ten year old's birthday, I made a Skylanders inspired cake which resembled the portal of power.  I also made figurines which were way too big so they couldn't go on the cake, but he loved the cake and the figurines (no effort in vain).  The cake was chocolate chiffon with mint cream cheese icing covered in butter cream fondant.

Carefully piped each symbol from portal

His favorite character as a topper, Fright Rider

Mickey Mouse Cake

Hello family,

Well, last week I was blessed to be able to try to recreate a Mickey Mouse in cake form for my wonderful, incredibly talented, and supportive brother.  ( I say this because he is an amazing artist and I think he could excel as a cartoonist or comic book illustrator, who knows... back to the cake...)

So, drawing inspiration from a Mickey Mouse cupcake I saw on Shereen's Cakes and Bakes Facebook page, please click here to see her wonderful page, I made this 9 in cake into Mickey.  In retrospect, given more time, I would have went a little more 3 dimensional, but I still like the way her turned out.

Hope you like him... lots of love,
Jae
Happy birthday for a special lady

Some parts are three dimensional, like his tongue :)

The Inn being listed in Bon Appetit Magazine's Top Ten Hotels in America

Hello loves,

It has been a while since I wrote, but here is a quick flash at what I have been doing...

Cakes, cakes and MY NEW JOB as a Pastry Cook at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff.

Working and still doing cakes has been awesome and I get to do my two passions towards pastry...

Enough about me.  Today I learned that my resort (yes I claim it as mine, I work there) has been named #7 in Bon Appetit on the Top Ten Hotels in America.

How awesome is that???  I feel so proud to be a part of that great team.  I will post updates on all the cakes I have done and have coming up.  I will also keep you updated with some tutorials and some work stuff I have been up to.

Love you always,
Jae
