Banana Nut Bread

Today i made banana nut bread from our over ripe bananas.

I used a recipe I have using for a while, but i added banana liquor to the recipe (dont worry, it will bake off).

While baking, i made a simple syrup, substituting brown sugar for regular sugar. Added cinnamon after it was cooling, added a touch more banana liquor.

After the bread cooled, i brushed syrup over the bread like a glaze.

The results: banana nut bread deliciousness!!!

Hard rolls

Today, was fun. I remade rolls that i made in school at home.

I love the challenge of seeing if what i make in school can be redone by me with the same or better results.

So i made hard rolls, they turned out great. So i successfully made the rolls without conpressed yeast (i only have active dry!)

They taste great, hope everything turns out that way!

Today 7/28 @ Tybee Island Inn

Today was cool, standard Southern breakfast, but I decided to stretch my cookie decorating wings today.

So I made sugar cookies...

Got creative with the design, courtesy of my co-worker, Chelsea. I like how I was able to copy the font that the logo has! Nothing too extravagant today, but i still had fun doing it.

Making something new

So we know i made sourdough this week. So i decided to revamp it to something new!!

I've always been interested in oven baked french toast, so i took some poached peaches, added my sourdough, made my custard, let it soak, baked it and topped it with powdered sugar!!!

My girls loved it!!!

Dont be afraid to try something new, i do all the time. (^_^)

7/26 Today @ Tybee Island Inn

Today was fun, the guests were served eggs, bacon, & cheese breakfast burritos with a tomato sauce, fresh fruit and whipped cream.

Todays afternoon snack is lemon pound cake. I'm a sucker for details, so the serving platter has shells and mermaid tails on it.

Whole Wheat Sourdough

Hello sourdough!

I told you I was trying this baby at home, and I did!

The beauty of bread making is totally different from Cakes, just patience! Loved this experience.

So I made the levain yesterday, made the dough today and baked up a monster, (°_°)

Feeling good about it, can't wait to cut into it and taste it.  Have a great Thursday!

Today @ Tybee Island Inn

Today was a good day for frittata!

I revamped Giada D's asparagus & tomato frittata, added scones, cherry compote and sausage, and there was breakfast. Score one for the kid (^_^)

My learning point is to think about plating design earlier but it was delicious (so I was told, yay).

I also made a white cake, created a blueberry sauce, which was so nice I wanted to drink it (i'm serious on that one, it was good), dusted a little powdered sugar and garnished with strawberry.

I'm stepping game up daily, so here's to having fun at work!

Puff pastry

Well the long awaited sourdough was a bust, remaking then posting pictures!

Laminated dough, in this case puff pastry, was very interesting to make. Never rolled it by hand before, had used a machine called a sheeter (beautiful & expensive device btw), so this was fun.

After a difficult (frozen, needing to thaw [that for another day]) start, the end result was beautiful.

So I have cherry almond filled pinwheels, apple pecan diamonds and almond filled bear claws!

So in my last baking lab prior to graduation, we were takes with making sourdough starter.  Me, super exited.

I mixed my "baby" on Friday and we ride home in the heat of the South! Trust when I say, that " baby" was a big baby, 90 min, later.
Making some nice sourdough bread with him, will keep you posted.

Today was the day I made my daughter the cupcakes she has been begging for. German chocolate cupcakes!

Fun in the kitchen and they are yummy, will have to work out extra hard tonight!
